CORING DEVICES (GeoPolaris patent).

S.H.S.B.D. (Self-sheathing Hydraulic Sampling Bottom Device)

This device was created (GeoPolaris European patent) as a result of the continual search for innovative technologies, intended to simplify the activities of removing marine sediment using light, sturdy, and versatile equipment, independent from the supporting nautical vessel.

Designed specifically for underwater sampling, it can be used on smaller-sized nautical vessels. The versatility of the device allows its use on any water surface: coastal strip, marsh areas, canals, river deltas and lakes.

S.H.S.B.D. A

By improving the Self-sheathing Hydraulic Sampling Bottom Device (S.H.S.B.D), GeoPolaris S.r.l. created an innovative underwater corer: the S.H.S.B.D-A. This device, which is able to reduce sample contamination and disturbance to a minimum, was designed to sample non-consolidated sediments. Its remarkable versatility and relative lightness combined with a high penetration power allow using S.H.S.B.D-A in several work environments, from offshore areas, to sea coasts, port, river and lake areas. The availability of four different penetration modes (gravity, vibration, percussion and hydraulic thrust) and the dedicated variable-frequency vibration system allows optimizing the effectiveness of the device depending on the type of sediment to be sampled. Moreover, the modular structure allow to adapt easily the length of barrel (up to 10 meters) to the specifications of sampling. Thanks to its innovative self-extraction system, a compact design and its relative lightness, S.H.S.B.D-A can be easily used on small-sized, shallow-draught vessels equipped with lifting devices (crane or A-frame), with a vertical lifting power of 2 ton, whereas traditional corers need a minimum lifting power of about 8 to 10 tons.

VGP 30/3

GeoPolaris R&D Department designed an innovative underwater device for sampling of undisturbed seabed sediments in marine areas, harbors, rivers, lakes, lagoons and artificial basins. The VGP30/3 was developed (GeoPolaris patent) as a result of the continual search for innovative technologies, intended to simplify the activities of marine sediment sampling using light, sturdy, and versatile equipment, independent from a small-size supporting boat. The goal is to propose the perfect way to maximize scientific results and minimize logistic, operational time, personnel, risks and costs. GeoPolaris and the new coring device VGP30/3 provides a revolution in seabed sampling activity.
